White Dishes

White Dishes 005

I only made it to Goodwill once this week.  Can you believe it???!!  And I found this lovely white platter.  I have never really owned dishes that are pure white with no decoration or color on them and I hear all the time how food looks best on a white plate.  Okay, I am willing to give it a try.  So I paid the cashier $1.99 for this great white platter and had her ring up a couple more white plates at .99 cents each.   I figure that I have lots of time to collect white plates and I can slowly put together a set….especially at these prices.

Once I got them home, however, I decided to add these French Rub-ons.  They are the same ones that I have been seeing Sissie use on her blog called Sissie’s Shabby Cottage.  I asked her not too long ago where she found them and she kindly told me Walmart!   I have to say I have never used a Rub-on before and I also have to say that it does not get much easier than that…that is literally all you do, cut it out, and rub it on!

For the plates I decided to only rub on the top part of the design so that I only had a small Fleur de Lis in the middle of each plate.  Too cute! So much for plain white plates.  I gave it my best shot.

I got all itchy jealous when I read that you found them at Goodwill...because we NEVER have plates that are that cute at our Goodwill. But...y'know then I read a little further. We have tons of plain white plates that would look fantastic with a rub-on. I wonder if you can still stick them in the dishwasher if you use a rub-on. Hmm...y'know I'm not a hand-wash kinda girl.

Hey atleast you tried. Love the little touch that you added though. They look great!

I know what you mean...I don't like to hand wash much either. My guess is probably "No" to the dishwasher. But that is okay for me on the plates and platters used for entertaining...because the husband is good about hand washing after a party but for everyday use...might have to stick to keeping them plain white.

These are great, Lisa. I have a platter just like yours. I'll try to remember to look for the rub ons. I've never used them.

Great start with your white dishes. I have a real addiction for them and white ironstone this and that, as well!

Very clever! I admit to really liking white plates BUT have never let that stop me from collecting many colored and embleshed ones too :)

Blessings!

I love rub ons, don't you? I think that you were probably having withdrawals from only one trip to Goodwill this week:)

Ok, seriously... the fleur de lis is an amazing touch! You got the plates at Goodwill? Those are my every day plates from Crate & Barrel that have been discontinued that I can only find at replacements unlimited! You got yourself a deal!!!

UPDATE: I used my platter to serve a salad this evening (which was delicious BTW) and when I went to clean the platter I rinsed in water and gently took a wash cloth with soapy water and the decal came off immediately in pieces!!!
So......I guess the rub-ons should be used on decorative objects only. No food or serving platters. :(
I guess that means no dishwasher either.

These are so pretty but does that mean they are now decorative plates only?
