I finished the gray and yellow quilt! I was busy snipping away at the rag edges last night while watching the Olympics and was so excited to see the Woman’s Gymnastics team take the gold medal! It was getting late when I snipped my last snip but there was no way I was going to go off to bed without seeing the finished product. So around 11:00 PM I popped it into the washing machine and then into the dryer and out it came. Perfectly ruffled ragged edges.
This quilt was much bigger than my last one. Each square measured 8 x 8 inches and for this quilt I used 10 squares across and 13 squares down the sides.
My last quilt which I called Colors of Provence, measured out at 7 squares by 10 square using the same 8 x 8 inch squares. You can click there and you can see my tutorial with links to great resources if you would like to make one of your own. They are very easy and forgiving and make a wonderful project for someone with basic sewing skills.
The red and yellow Colors of Provence quilt was made using pattern fabric for all the square on the front side and each of those squares was backed with a solid yellow broad cloth fabric. Broad cloth is much less expensive than most patterned fabrics. As an example, the patterned fabrics were around $10.00 a yard while the broad cloth was only $2.99 a yard. For my new gray and yellow quilt, I mixed both gray and yellow solid color broad cloth with the patterned squares and all of the squares were backed with broadcloth. Doing this made this larger quilt more affordable.
This is the very first quilt I made. I used patterned fabric for both the front and back of the squares so while this was a smaller quilt, it was actually kind of expensive in comparison because I didn’t use the cheaper broad cloth for the backing.
I think it took me about 3 weeks to get this one done but I did it in a VERY leisurely fashion. Cutting, piecing, and sewing in little chunks and bits of time.
Jim has already declared that it will be his official “napping on the couch while watching college football games on Saturdays this Fall” quilt. And at the same time he mentioned that it might be nice to have a Maize and Blue quilt made for the Michigan games. That’s when Kelsey chimed in that she would love to have a Tarheel Carolina Blue quilt made. Not sure which one I should get started on first. :)
I am already looking forward to the weekend. Our anniversary was last week and my birthday is this coming weekend. We are planning a mini getaway on Friday. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and give more details later. Have a Happy Wednesday!

Another beauty, Lisa! I did save the links to those tutorials you gave us last time. I will definitely be getting to this project at some point! I think Jim's goes first, since he asked first. ; )
They turned out great & so pretty! I'm going to have to try that Broad cloth out! I've only done baby size and flannel ones. :) They're so fun and cuddly, happy day to you! xx Holly

That is gorgeous! And I'm so impressed that you did it in front of the Olympics - all I can manage is to watch, slack-jawed!
