Bird Cage

Bird Cage 011

Well, it was a good run. My days finding fabulous castaways at the Goodwill seems to have come to a screeching halt. I have stopped by at least once a week for the last several weeks and have walked back out the door empty handed. Nothing! The good stuff seems to have dried up. I don’t understand it! We have actually donated I can’t tell you how many bags of STUFF over the past few weeks to the Goodwill so why can’t I find any goodies any more??? I was spoiled and didn’t even realize it. So today I needed to dip in to my “inventory”. That is what I call my cardboard box of purchased castoffs that I keep out in the garage. I won’t tell you what my husband calls it. ;)

Today’s project was actually purchased before the holidays. I found this great bird cage and only paid $4.99 for it. It was dirty but in good shape so after scrubbing it down, I proceeded to add a few coats of Rust-o-leum Heirloom White to it. I was fun for me to finally get outside with a can of spray paint. The weather has not been cooperating in the past few months. The temperature needs to be at least 50 degrees with no wind to be able to spray. Today was a good day for it.

I tucked a small pot of ivy into it. Now I just need to get one of those watering cans with a long skinny spout. Otherwise it might die of thirst. It wasn’t easy getting that pot into that cage with out stripping all of the leaves off of the plant. That would have defeated the purpose don’t you think?

I am adding this post to Transformation Thursday over at The Shabby Chic Cottage. Come see all of the other transformed projects!

And I am posting this over at Leigh's Tales from Bloggeritaville! This spot is worth the visit!!

  1. Hey Lisa! Now you feel my GW pain! LOL I sooo want a birdcage. Guess that's something else to keep my eye out for.

It looks great with it's new coat of white paint.

  2. Girl I feel the same way - been having a total dry spell at the GW lately. I got the same box of inventory in my basement. It's always good for a rainy day, when I feel like playing house.

  3. Oh no, say it ain't so, Lisa! Hopefully, people will be starting Spring cleaning and you will find your GW filled up with goodies again! I love this birdcage white and paired with your terrarium!

  4. You keep a box of things you purchase in the garage just in case you don't find anything at the Goodwill???? hahahahahaha. That is so funny. I LOVE this vignette. The white birdhouse is so inviting with the ivy. You did a wonderful job!

  5. Ha! No, when I find something at GW and it's cheap I buy it. But it sometimes takes me a while to figure out what I want to do with it. And the cold weather kind curtailed all my spray painting to. So, it sits in the garage until I can get to it!

  6. Love the bird house and terarium! I have NO luck at Goodwill or any other kind of thrifting shopping. I don't like the smell of those places, can't get there often enough to find the deals, and probably don't have enough vision for what a piece COULD be. But you inspire me so thanks for sharing!

  8. I love the bird cage! It looks great painted white.
I know what you mean about GW. I went into our local GW last week and the shelves were bare!! Very disappointing.
I hope things pick up soon.

  9. It looks great painted white. Our Goodwill store never has much of anything. I got to find the better neighborhoods to hang out in.

  13. Gorgeous! I have two vintage white birdcages in my kitchen that my mother in law brought over from England. Love the look xo

  14. Oh it turned out so cute!! I just love it! I agree...the weather here has not been all that amicable for outdoor crafting, either. I can't wait for it to get warmer and I can paint some pots. We are also getting ready to donate about 8 bins of stuff to Goodwill. Perhaps that will be karmically passed down to you??

  15. You were hitting the jackpot for a long time so I guess a dry spell is to be expected.

You birdcages look great and it looks like you have a green thumb!

  16. The thing about GW is it is either feast or famine and we've had famine here lately too.

I love your bird cage. Just gorgeous. I'm waiting for a 50° day with no wind so I can be out with spray paint :)

    Blessings!

  17. Hi Lisa....don't feel bad about GW drying up....my GW never ever has anything good and if and when you happen to find something you might consider buying the price is so high I just walk out and go over to TJM.....but I love the birdhouse painted white....what a differance a coat of paint made...

  18. I know how you feel about GW! Seems like even when I find things I really like, they have raised the price so high it doesn't make sense to buy. Used jeans are $15 at my GW! Forget it! I can get new for that! These are great!

  19. That bird cage looks fantastic now! Our GW has been bad lately. Sometimes I can get a cart full. Other times....;/
