Great Handmade Gift Idea – Burlap Coasters

137

Anyone who has read any bits or pieces of my blog probably already knows that I love my burlap and I love my number stencils. It might be hard to believe but I never quite go around to making a set of numbered burlap coasters until now.

These are so easy to make. Cut your burlap into squares that are 5 x 5 inches square.

Take two of your squares and and place them on top of each other and run a stitch about 1/2 inch inside all four edges so that they are sewn together.

Fringe your edges by pulling the burlap threads around all 4 sides. Use scissors to trim all edges so that the fringe looks about the same length on all sides.

Burlap is messy! Be forewarned.

Now you are ready to stencil.

I used black craft paint and stenciled numbers on one side of all four coasters.

These will be fun to use for Thanksgiving this year.

And they make a great hand made gift for the holidays.

I made a set of Burlap Placemats with numbers on them about this time last year. They are easy to make as well.

Click here for a blast from the past and a link to an easy How-To for my Burlap Numbered Placemats. The coasters and the placemats are basically made the same way. And before anyone asks….Here are my two favorite online sources for stencils.

And I am adding to Make It For Monday over at Cottage Instincts. Come by for a visit.

And I have added this post to Transformation Thursday over at The Shabby Chic Cottage and Thrifty Thursday over at Tales from Bloggeritaville. Lots and lots of fun projects at these parties too!

Help! I can’t stop!

I can’t stop making coasters! I made some new ones. You will have to let me know which ones you like best. I added a set with the navigation compass and I made a crown in honor of my friend FGT (First Grade Teacher) who loves all things girly. :)

But I have to say that my favorite of the three has to be the “CHEERS” coasters! I made two sets of them and will start production on more.

This weekend is the BIG HALLOWEEN Party. This party is given by our good friends and neighbors who really know how to throw a party. They have a band that plays outside in the garage and a bartender in the house mixing up mysterious Halloween concoctions and lots of great food. And the costumes are HILLARIOUS!! I can’t tell you what we are going to be yet because it is a big secret and I can’t take any chances with it getting out. But I will fill you in later this weekend. All I can tell you is that there has been a lot of gluing going on in our house this week and I hope there is a prize this year!!
