Barstool From Goodwill

 Goodwill Barstool 023

I found a black barstool at Goodwill for $10.00 the other day.  I have seen this type of barstool there before and usually they are a bit cheaper but they seemed kind of rickety to me and they were not painted.  This one was already painted black which saved me the step of having to spray paint it.  All I needed to do was wash it and then use some sandpaper to distress some of the edges.  Very easy.

Kitchen Counter Stools 018

Whenever we have people over we always seem to hang out in the kitchen and usually its around the kitchen counter.  I only have 3 counter height barstools.  I thought 3 looked better when I bought them many years ago and now that I think I might want another I can’t find them anymore.  Besides,  I also didn’t want 4 barstools because I though it would look too crowded and the stools would always be bumping into each other.   But lately I have been thinking that it would be nice to have one or two extra stools to keep out in the garage and then pull them out when company comes over.  So when I saw the barstool at Goodwill for cheapness I grabbed it.

After I cleaned it up and used some sandpaper on it to distress it a bit, I wiped on a poly-stain to age all of the distressed areas and to give the entire barstool a glossier finish.  After it was dry, I whipped out my number stencils.

It looks like I might need a finishing spray on the seat.  I’ts looking slightly dull in this photo.  I have a clear spray sealer that will take care of that.  So, yes I have another piece that is marked with a number.   I think I am starting to run out of ideas on what I can put a number on.  I said “starting”.  I still feel I have a few more numbering tricks up my sleeve.   :)

Goodwill Lamp

    Wine Crate Oct. 10 016

As I said earlier in the week, I have been having an extremely dry spell at the Goodwill!  I did find a wood crate last week that I posted about and added some number stencils to and I also brought home  this mini lamp that I was able to perk up.

It was nice and sturdy and just the right size.  It was a bronze color but in very good shape for $3.00.

I spray painted it black.  I like this Rust-oleum American Accents black spray paint the best.  I seem to only be able to find it at Hobby Lobby.

After a couple of coats of paint, and a new shade from Target for $9.99, I have a new small table lamp.  I really been in the reading mood lately so I place the new lamp right next to my favorite reading chair.  (It’s also my “watching a lot of college football on Saturdays” chair”.  :)

And if you didn’t catch it yesterday, I announced the winner of my Giveaway for the Monogrammed Lap Top Bag from Simply-Bags.  The winner was Sissie from Sissie’s Shabby Cottage.  Congratulations to Sissie and Thanks to all who entered!

Bargain of the Week

I was able to pop into the Goodwill a few times in the past couple of weeks and mostly I have been picking up Christmas Ornaments for next year.  I guess a lot of people didn’t want to pack away some of their holiday decorations for next year and instead dropped them off at Goodwill.  Lucky me!  I won’t bore you with more Christmas decoration photos (at least not until next Christmas comes along) but I got some great deals on Christmas bulbs, a mini white tree for $ 1.49, and a “Department 56” Red Cardinal Bird Ornament for .49 cents!  It is all safely packed away in the attic (along with the flying squirrels) :) till next year.

Today I found this glass dome for only .99 cents!   I left the tag on it for you to witness!   I liked it because the knob on top was rounder and larger than some of the other domes I have seen there.  This was actually a much nicer dome than some of the others that I paid $2.99 and $3.99 for.  Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to how they price some of their things.  Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.  Today was win.

I found the pedestal for $1.99 a few weeks ago and had big plans for it for Christmas but ran out of time to do anything with it.  I think I am going to get some metallic silver spray paint and see if I can get a silver/pewter look for it.   Or I may even try to “leaf” it with silver foil leafing.   If I do, I’ll need my 40% off coupon from either Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, or A.C. Moore  before I try that.  Those leafing kits can be expensive.  Has anyone done a project using the silver leaf flakes?  I think it looks relatively easy.  I’ll let you know if I give it a try.

Christmas Bulb Jackpot!

Christmas Bulbs 031

I feel like I hit the Christmas Bulb Jackpot at the Goodwill today. $1.99 for each box of ornaments!!

Christmas Bulbs 005

The striped ones are my favorite. They have that retro thing going on! Do I have enough containers??? Because none of these are going on the trees. No room! And I don’t want to have to get another tree. (And I think another tree would put hubby over the edge.) :)Christmas Bulbs 012

A couple of weeks ago I brought home this wonderful glass terrarium. I haven’t had a chance to boast about it to you all yet so let me take the opportunity to do so today! Yes, it was goodwill find and I honestly only paid $2.99 for it. Honest! See…zoom in on the orange price tag that I left on the side for you. I couldn’t believe my luck that day. Well, it has been sitting empty until today when I filled that baby up with some orange and blue Christmas bulbs.

So bright and colorful!

Next stop….the mantle where I filled a couple of Hurricanes with these burgundy and green bulbs.

Then it was time to visit the dining room….

Here are my favorites of the bunch. These striped retro bulbs have some texture to them and came in orange, green, and blue.

Remember my white “Fleur de Lis” bowl…another great Goodwill find? (I used this bowl on my Thanksgiving table and filled it with the natural decorator balls that you can still get for free with the purchase of 4 cards from American Greetings.) Today I replaced those natural balls with my new retro Christmas bulbs and filled it to the top.

May your Christmas be colorful and bright!

I am linking this post up to Bobbypins Booardwalk where she is hosting a Bragfest!! You know I am all about bragging when it comes to my GW finds. Stop by for more bragging!

Burlap and Black

Pumpkin Roll and Goodwill Art 004

I am not much of a “Black Friday” shopper. I hate crowds and there is nothing I want to buy bad enough that could tempt me to get out of bed at some crazy early morning hour to go shopping. Nothing! Even if it was were Free. And that is a powerful word “free” and I kindly say “no thanks, I’ll sit this one out”. Somehow I think there will be bargains enough all through the month of December to satisfy my holiday shopping. With that said, I did stop by the Goodwill this morning (at the civilized hour of 10:00am) after I went to the post office. :) It was a great time to shop. Almost no one was there. They were all out standing in line at Walmart, Target, and Best Buy!

I found a few things that I picked up for cheapness. One of which was this set of 5 black square picture frames for only $4.99. And they already had the picture wire attached on the backs for immediate hanging. I decided to do something with some of my leftover burlap. So I removed the glass inserts and stretched a piced of burlap that I cut out over the piece of foam board I found in the middle of the frame. Then I simply used my stamps and stencils along with some black craft paint and made some mini pictures with them.

I created 3 of them and will wait to do the last two until the new stencils I ordered off of Etsy arrive. I can’t wait to get them and show you the last two after I finish them. So stayed tuned!

A Little Bit of Silver

Silver Pitcher 007

I found this beautiful and almost contemporary looking silver and glass pitcher at the Goodwill. And I only paid $2.99 for it! I have to admit that it was tarnished and it had some dried white stuff on the bottom of the pitcher but there were no chips in it and I just couldn’t leave it there!

Silver Pitcher 004

When I got it home the first thing I did was wash it and I used my kid’s favorite science experiment…vinegar and baking soda to bubble up the white stuff stuck on the bottom. Then it took me about 5 minutes of elbow grease and some silver polish to get the tarnish off the handle and the top of the rim and spout. It shined up beautifully!

Goodwill 002

I come across silver bowls and candy dishes all the time at the Goodwill. And I have some silver pieces but truthfully they are still in same box the movers packed them into from our last move and they are somewhere up in the storage room. Someday I will bring them out and shine them up when I decide where I might want to put them. But, I have no intentions of growing a silver collection unless I come across pieces that I know we will use. And I do believe we will use this pitcher. Pitcher of iced tea or orange juice on the weekends? A pitcher of Cosmo’s or Pomegranate Martinis perhaps? Yes please!

Silver Pitcher 001

(See that little lamp next to my pitcher? I picked that up a few weeks ago for $6.00 at a consignment store.) Have a Happy Wednesday!
