Burlap and Black

Pumpkin Roll and Goodwill Art 004

I am not much of a “Black Friday” shopper. I hate crowds and there is nothing I want to buy bad enough that could tempt me to get out of bed at some crazy early morning hour to go shopping. Nothing! Even if it was were Free. And that is a powerful word “free” and I kindly say “no thanks, I’ll sit this one out”. Somehow I think there will be bargains enough all through the month of December to satisfy my holiday shopping. With that said, I did stop by the Goodwill this morning (at the civilized hour of 10:00am) after I went to the post office. :) It was a great time to shop. Almost no one was there. They were all out standing in line at Walmart, Target, and Best Buy!

I found a few things that I picked up for cheapness. One of which was this set of 5 black square picture frames for only $4.99. And they already had the picture wire attached on the backs for immediate hanging. I decided to do something with some of my leftover burlap. So I removed the glass inserts and stretched a piced of burlap that I cut out over the piece of foam board I found in the middle of the frame. Then I simply used my stamps and stencils along with some black craft paint and made some mini pictures with them.

I created 3 of them and will wait to do the last two until the new stencils I ordered off of Etsy arrive. I can’t wait to get them and show you the last two after I finish them. So stayed tuned!

Love these, Lisa! Do you find a stencil works better than a stamp? I'm with you on Black Friday. I basically stay home {although I might, just might, venture out to Michael's Sunday a.m. early just to get some supplies}.

Love these! They would look great hung just the way you arranged them in the second to last image. Can't wait to see them all done. This would make a nice gift too.

You do the best projects. I don't have any time right now but when I do I have many ideas from you and some other bloggy friends. I am heading to Goodwill next Monday.

Lisa-- Okay, this is way fantastico. It reminded me of the kind of prints you see in the West Elm or Pottery Barn catalogs. If you do a more detailed how-to when you get the new stamp, let me know as I'd love to put it up on The Home Beete! (If my direct deposit does in fact show up tomorrow I'm hoping to hit my favorite thrift store so hopefully I'll have some treasures to show off soon too.) :-)

Kathy asked if I find that stencils are easier to work with than stamps and I do. Some times I don't get the full paint cover with a stamp and I have to go back with a fine brush and touch up. I don't have to do that with stencils. I will also plan on doing a more detailed How-To when my new stencils come in for Paulette at "The Home Beete".

Love 'em!!! I can see these done as monograms and given as gifts. Great project!

I'm right there with ya, Liss - with the no shopping on black Friday. I worked retail (good ole JC Penney) during my college years having to work the dreading BF. Twenty-five years later, I still have no desire to venture out on that day. I stay home and Chrismasfy my house. That's more fun anyway!

Thanks for sharing!

I love these! I'm not much of a shopper period. Unless it's an antique mall or junk shop. And I avoid the mall like the plague.

I agree with you on the even if there were giving it away for free deal. Goodwill, now that is a different story. I am having withdrawal, as it has been over a week since I visited.
