Bargain of the Week

I was able to pop into the Goodwill a few times in the past couple of weeks and mostly I have been picking up Christmas Ornaments for next year.  I guess a lot of people didn’t want to pack away some of their holiday decorations for next year and instead dropped them off at Goodwill.  Lucky me!  I won’t bore you with more Christmas decoration photos (at least not until next Christmas comes along) but I got some great deals on Christmas bulbs, a mini white tree for $ 1.49, and a “Department 56” Red Cardinal Bird Ornament for .49 cents!  It is all safely packed away in the attic (along with the flying squirrels) :) till next year.

Today I found this glass dome for only .99 cents!   I left the tag on it for you to witness!   I liked it because the knob on top was rounder and larger than some of the other domes I have seen there.  This was actually a much nicer dome than some of the others that I paid $2.99 and $3.99 for.  Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to how they price some of their things.  Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.  Today was win.

I found the pedestal for $1.99 a few weeks ago and had big plans for it for Christmas but ran out of time to do anything with it.  I think I am going to get some metallic silver spray paint and see if I can get a silver/pewter look for it.   Or I may even try to “leaf” it with silver foil leafing.   If I do, I’ll need my 40% off coupon from either Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, or A.C. Moore  before I try that.  Those leafing kits can be expensive.  Has anyone done a project using the silver leaf flakes?  I think it looks relatively easy.  I’ll let you know if I give it a try.

I cannot even TELL you how much I love Goodwill! We are within about a 5-mile radius of 3 of them. THREE!! I don't go every week because it's easy to get frustrated - it's so hit-or-miss...but if I go 3 or 4 times per year, I end up with a full bag of goodies. Love, love, love that place! And remember: at Hobby Lobby, if it's not 50% off when you go, wait a week. They alternate 1/2 the store one week and the other 1/2 the other week. Or at least, that's how it is here. I never pay full price for anything there! I've never done the leafing, but would be interested in trying. Make sure to post if you give it a shot!

Is it wrong that I'm actually a little bit mad at you for scoring such awesome finds? Also, I'm very interested in leafing...let us know how it turns out.

Goodwill is my favorite destination! Love the dome.Try the silver leaf on your pedestal, it will be gorgeous. I love leafing, it is so much fun to see the amazing transformation. I love spray paint too but for metallics, leafing is the way to go! Can't wait to see the result.

I have been wanting to get to Goodwill for a couple of weeks now, but the snow we've been getting has made that just about impossible. I think you got some great Christmas deals! Love the glass dome {and your pedestal}.

Great finds! I love to thrift! My grown kids think I am crazy because I hit the thrift stores. They don't know what they are missing, do they?

Oh no, now I have to go to Goodwill tomorrow!
I love your find and yes the top is a little larger than the cheese cover types. Love it. Good price too!
I've never tried silver leafing.
So, be sure and show us your finished project.

You're right, Goodwill's pricing is very random!
You got some great deals!

Never tried silver leaf, curious to see how it goes.
