Guilty TV Viewing Pleasure of the Week

Now that the Olympics are over I have had to find some other shows to fill in my TV viewing time as I start to wean myself off of the winter TV viewing schedule I have been keeping.

Housewives of NY:  The new season of The Housewives of New Your City kicked off their new season on Thursday night.  And I missed it!  But I was able to catch it the next day because that is what BRAVO does….they beat their shows with a stick.  I mean they air them over and over and over…… and I am guilty of watching them over and over...  And I spend most of that time disgusted by what I see.  And yet, I can’t look away!  I think these women  think their lives are envied and admirable.  I think they are pathetic. The “girls” on NY  are sarcastic and shallow and not too bright which in the proper setting I can appreciate.  But these “ladies” make me glad I don’t have oodles of money. The Hamptons?  Blah, blah, blah….I can think of a hundred other places I’d rather spend time.  Nobody is happy.  Nobody is truly kind.  Their money is more of a curse than blessing.   Makes me appreciate my calm and boring life.  I have always believed that calm and boring is good!  Maybe that is why I watch.  It’s life affirming to me.  It’s “my life affirming” if that makes any sense.

Celebrity Rehab:   It was the season finale this week for Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.  And who doesn’t love Dr. Drew?  It’s so heart breaking to see what a mess these people have made of their lives.  The show is so good at scrapping away the crust on the outside of these pitiful people and shows how heartbreakingly fragile they all are.  You can’t help but care for these sad and broken people and you can’t help but admire how Dr. Drew tries to help them.  Fame and fortune is not all that it’s cracked up to be.

Hurry Spring.  I need to spend more time out of doors doing more constructive things with my time.   But mostly, I just need to step away from the remote.

Hey Lisa! My TV vice right now are reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens. I've been plopping my lazy self in front of the TV almost every afternoon watching episodes I've seen at least half a dozen times already. Must be a "winter thing".

I'm really waiting and hoping for Housewives of NJ to come back on. Like the others, it's a trainwreck ya just can't look away from!

We're finally having nice, warm, sunny weather here this weekend too. I'm planning on spending some quality time with my spray paint cans in the garage!

I watch Real Housewives of Atlanta and check in on Real Housewives of Orange County, but I agree with you about the New York wives. Miserable!

I feel the same way, I wouldn't trade my life for any one of them...ever, for any reason...totally not appealing to me. Have a good weekend :D

Hey Lisa.....Oh come on girl!! these ladies are like a train wreck...You just can't turn away and you did admit that you watch over and over....And they didn't even have Simon in the first show...We just can't wait to see Simon and his red leather pants...
My husband got me started on the ladies of the OC.....the ladies of Atlanta are NOT Ladies....and well New Jersey is New Jersey....but we love the NYHW's......

Honey, you are NOT alone. I love all the Housewives except Atlanta. It is my guilty pleasure and I don't mind who knows:) It is something that makes me appreciate that I am NOT them. Boy they started off with a bang. Arguing right off the bat. This is going to be a great season. My favs are the OC girls. Talk about living beyond your means.

I don't watch Dr. Drew but he is a cutie. Do you watch Celebrity Fit Club? I am guilty of that one.

I have never watched any of the Housewife shows. I know I would feel the same as you described. Celebrity Rehab on the other hand - I can't get enough of this show and I always get so angry when I'm trying to go to sleep and flipping through channels and the show is on. I can't turn it off - I will stay up way too late and regret it in the AM when I'm trying to wake up. But I love it and I love, Love, LOVE Dr. Drew.

Oh man...I continue to watch these two shows over and over. I cannot actually decide which Housewives cast I like less...I tend to vote for the O.C ones because I am an L.A. girl (he, he). Dr. Drew is hot and everyone else is a mess...but I watch.

On another note...LOVE the name of your blog...when I was little I used to only eat pickle and cheese sandwiches (american cheese and slices dill pickles on white bread with a smidge of mayo)..almost makes my tummy turn now.

Bwahahahaha!! So, when Neal was in Kuwait, I got to watch UNLIMITED trash TV. But now he comes home and is very look-down-his-nose at my Real Housewives and Bravo Mania. I sort of miss it. I learn a lot more on the History Channel but there is NOTHING life-affirming on the history channel like there is on Bravo. Yes, I'm glad to learn all the military strategies of WWII...but what makes me very happy is seeing some bitch trip on her Blahniks. Yeah..that's the bee's knees. Drink it in because summer is also here and your DVR will be wilting in the desert of new show selections!

Hi Lisa,
I never got into the Real Houswives but that doesn't mean I don't watch a lot of TV. I seem to gravitate toward the sitcoms and I don't miss Grey's or Private Practice. I usually try and work on some kind of project while I'm watching so I won't feel too guilty :-)
Hope you're having a great week.

The O.C. gals are vapid and shallow, mostly. The N.J. wives are decidely trampy. The Atlanta show, well, those aren't really people, are they? And the NY ladies are quite the catfighters!

No one on any of these shows is nice or normal. I certainly hope they aren't normal. I shudder to think . . .

If you want a lesson in how not to live your life, though, just tune in to one of the many bridal shows. Where do young women learn this egotistical sense of self? It's like they have a little demon on their shoulder, whispering in their ear, "You're fabulous. You're entitled. Now, go act like an a$$." -- HollyM
