Big, Black,Blank Canvas

Lamp and Pillows 005

It’s not easy decorating a teenage boy’s bedroom.  Not easy at all!  A few months ago we painted our son’s room a very pale shade of a Benjamin More Gray.  It is actually lighter than I expected but I am still trying to work with it.  I am used to going with darker shades and wanted to lighten up this time around. But for now, the walls look good and are nice and clean and his room does have a masculine-ness about it.  But it has been a work in progress.  Last week I finally found a quilt and a comforter for his bed that we both liked.  And just yesterday, I just found these pillows at TJ Maxx that will match his room.  I am going to use the design on these pillows as inspiration for some artwork for the walls.  Right now I have a BIG, BLACK, BLANK Canvas hanging on his wall.  It looks kind of silly but I have been waiting for inspiration for what to do with it to hit.  I think it finally did.

So, by posting this photo, I am committing myself to making something in the world of art happen in my son’s room today.  The only thing is, he’s still sleeping and I need that canvas to get started.  And if I wait for him to wake up…..which could be many hours from now…I am talking PM...my enthusiasm for the project might wane.  So I am going to bite the bullet, put my head down, and hope I don’t wake him up as I remove the BIG, BLACK, BLANK Canvas that is hanging so dangerously close to his bed.  I am going in!

We are truly melting down here in sunny NC.  It’s been in the high 90’s all week.  Yesterday it was 98 degrees.  Today and tomorrow more of the same.  The heat index was 109 degrees yesterday!  It’s brutal!  So, I’ll be indoors most of the day…AGAIN…so why not make some art?  I hope it’s post worthy when I finish!  I’ll get a batch of pickles done too while I am at it. :)  Stay cool wherever you are!

Choosing color for the teenage room can be a challenge. I did a post on it in March - her it is if you want to take a look.

I love those pillows and you can pull any of the colors you see in there for his room. I hope he likes it.

We are melting here in Waxhaw, NC. What town are you in? Thank god for my home office so I can work in an cool outfit and limit my travels on these really hot days!

As a mother of a 17 year old son, I can completely relate. Good luck on "going in!" xoxo

How about using some of the colors in the pillow and just making free form circles, some partially off the canvas, in varying sizes. That would look abstract, masculine and work well with the pillows.

Good luck with the canvas. I have every faith that it will turn out fabulous!

Headed for 99 here today in Roanoke, VA. I CAN'T STAND THIS HEAT!!

Can't wait to see what you create! Oh, and I know what you mean about decorating a teenage boy's room. You'd think being on my third teenage boy I'd have some good ideas by now!

Love the pillow and, again, can't wait to see how it comes together, Lisa.

You are so cute! I can't wait to see your finished product. Love those pillows. I still need to finish my boys room but that has taken a back seat to everything else right now.
