Recycled Garden Markers

Garden Tags 026

I have a bad case of Spring Fever.   I was browsing around in the garden center at Lowe’s not too long ago and came across a cart of “distressed plants” that were very nicely discounted.  I picked up 8 Pansies.  Four were bright yellow and four were bright purple.  I just love that purple and yellow color combination.  And, I paid only $1.40 per container.  I love a bargain.  I took them home and planted one yellow and one purple pansy in each of the four pots that I usually plant my summer Geraniums in.  This will give our porch a little bit of color until it’s time to plant the Geraniums

Anyway, I decided to take the plastic plant markers that came with each of the plants and see if I could re-cycle them.  So with a can of black spray paint, I quickly gave them a spray on the front and back and let them dry.

Then with a Sharpie White Paint Pen, (I used their medium point oil based paint pen.)  (click here to check out the Sharpie Blog),  I started adding the names of some of the plants I hope to be growing this summer.  The fun part was making them look funky with some extra doodles.

And here they are.  I think they turned out cute and I am planning to make some more when I get some more plastic markers after I buy some more plants.    These marker tags were nice and wide which I think I like the best but I am sure you could do it with the skinny ones too.

Fun, quick and easy.  :)

What a freaking AWESOME idea!!! I love it. I always want plant markers but never want to pay as much for them as they want in the stores. I always have black spray paint and paint pens.

Great idea, Lisa! I like these, too, because they are nice and big! I like that you can see the names and the designs you did.
