Cheese Anyone?

Christmas 2009 034

Have you ever seen such a beautiful set of cheese knives before in your life??? My sweet daughter gave this set to me as my Christmas gift this year. And I am tickled to have them.

Christmas 2009 031 Here they are in their box. She purchased them at Pier One Imports. Now as some of you might remember, I have been lusting over the set of cheese knives that I saw before Thanksgiving at Pottery Barn. Remember this photo below? I vowed that someday they would be mine.

I still think they are beautiful but decided against them because the handles had the names “Cheddar, Swiss”, and “Blue” on them. What if I wanted to serve my favorite Parrano? Or a Monterey Jack with Horseradish? Hmmm??? I didn’t want to feel “locked” in. :)

Christmas 2009 045

I wish I had a pear to slice and some grapes to add to this plate. (If you like Blue Cheese the “Bayley Hazen Blue” in the center of the plate is highly recommended. A slice of that with a piece of sliced pear is heaven!)

Christmas 2009 040

An enhanced version of this cheese plate and my new cheese knives might be making an appearance to help ring in the New Year. :) How about you? Any cheese lovers out there?

Now that's what I call some fancy cheese cutters and I LOVE THEM!
Your precious daughter sure knew what to get her Mom. How sweet.
All those cheeses are making me hungry, I'm headin for the frig, of course I don't have any fancy cheeses like yours, so I guess I'll grab a hunk of cheddar!

I have to say, Lisa, that I like these better than the PB ones! The handles are really pretty on them. Your cheese plate looks delicious. I feel a snack coming on!

Looks like you daughter "did good"! I love those knives. On a last minute trip to the mall right before C'mas, I had the cheese knives in my hand at PB, but thought I'd be frugal and not get them. I see your point about not being "locked" in with the names on the handles.

I'm a HUGE cheese lover, but I've never tried Parrano. I'll have to look for that one. I should probably wait a few months . . . me thinks I've indulged in way too much cheese and other belly-swelling goodies the past few days!

Love the knives and I would be like you...not wanting to be locked in to the writing on them. I love cheese. I had an appetizer of brushetta w/ gorgonzola, pancetta, pears and balsamic vinegar and it was delish. (I know half of that is spelled wrong:) Enjoy your cheese. I will be trying the blue cheese soon.

I love cheese! Those knives are beautiful. Think I may need to pay Pier One a visit soon. I know what you mean about the whole commitment thing too. I much prefer your set over the other. The handles are much more elegant. Love the boursin cheese. I figured out how to make my own version of it and my son is nuts over it. Gorgonzola is my favorite for a salad. I recently found Fontina cheese and it is great mixed with mozzarella in dishes. My husband used to think that Parmesan cheese was horrible til I turned him onto real parmesan. He didn't know it did not really come in a green can!

I thought I was going to paint but after I tried the color on the wall it was too brown. Hmmmm. maybe I should leave well enough alone...ha!

Those cheese knives are great and I agree that the handles are better not being labeled. I love cheese, but I am not very adventurous with trying different types...especially the funky cheeses. A cheese platter is a little frigthening to me!

So funny that you wrote about this right now...my husband came home from a business trip right before Christmas. He had dinner at his boss's home and they served a variety of cheese. He really enjoyed sampling the different varieties. I have to say that here in Oklahoma city I wouldn't even have a clue where to go find some. Have to work on that. :)
